This was a fabulous post, Lisa - thanks so much. I adore Yellowstone. When i visited, i had hoped to see the Lamar Valley wolves, but alas no luck. Perhaps i'll get back again … your post is a great reminder. And it brings into bright light the reasons for keeping our national parks safe from commercial (and government) predation.
I'm so glad you were having such a wonderful time exploring Yellowstone! We've been there twice and I would go again in a heartbeat!
I always feel like people who have never been there don't understand how there is so much for all of the senses. It's beautiful, but there are so many sounds and smells and things that you can feel (like the spray from a geyser) that you can't experience as richly if you're not there in person. One of my favorite things was listening to the water crackle in the hot springs or sound of the rush of steam. My daughter spent a lot of the time plugging here nose, LOL. She was not a fan of the sulfur smell.
It's hard to see people getting too close to the wildlife. When we were at Mammoth Hot Springs there were elk grazing and resting right in the village area and on paths and people were walking right by them like they were animals in a zoo enclosure. Our kids were young (7 and 5?) and we explained to them about the rules for keeping people and the wildlife safe. I'm thankful that the wild animals are willing to share their home with us.
Stunning, gorgeous photos, Lisa! Your sketch was beautiful too. Everything brought back memories of our 2 trips to this amazing, almost other-worldly place. Thank you for sharing your awesome adventures🙏🏻❤️❣️
