Well, Lisa, it's me again, begging for paint colours. I keep trying to learn techniques and mixing from your paintings, capturing what's real in a simplified way. Lots of over-painting. lots of daubs. Brilliance of colour. For your "volcano + flora" journal spread with the cowpens daisies, can you tell me the paints you have in your 16-colour palette? I know you use lots of brands, so brands + paint names would be helpful - from there i can research pigment info. | That "shaggy" rock formation you photo'ed fascinates me. Is the shagginess actual? or is it a play of light? I am a lover of stone so am off to research that formation. Thank you for your endlessly interesting travelogue and for your eternal patience with my questions. Best, -karen.
Oh, Lisa - that you would take the time to do it at all is just great! I checked out that shaggy rock, and it seems that it is substrate from the eruption of Capulin that looks as it does due to being liquid turned to stone + subsequent buffeting by the elements and erosion. I love it. Looks like a dragon trying to camouflage itself. Doing a pretty good job. Best, -k.
Ok I love the photos of your hike but now I want to know your recipe for Chickpea noodle soup. It looks wonderful and we are going into cooler weather here in Minnesota so this would be perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Joanne! I just updated the post with the recipe -- enjoy! Do you have snow yet? One of the rangers told me there were a few pockets of snow on top of the volcano! I love snow (but Jason doesn't, ha!)
no snow yet just a light frost and then we went temps went up to the 80's! Yike - not normal for here. Today we are sliding back into seasonal temps. but snow is a long ways off yet I think!
Thanks for the recipe! I am always on the hunt for simple, veggie soups. This fits the bill perfectly!
You’re most welcome! Let me know how you like it!

Hi Karen! I’ll try to write it up as soon as I can — might not be until after my residency is finished tho!
