It have been fun to follow you and think about this time off grid except that you also and in high use of technology. At some point I would love to know more about the apps and the technology you are using. Solar panels, satellite use and more. Very cool to learn about.
Love your travel blog. It is like traveling with you. Could you tell us more about your perpetual journal - brand, what you put in it, have often you journal in it, etc.? Thanks
Hi Anita! The perpetual journal is handmade by Wondercabin on Etsy. I'll add a link to the post since it looks like substack won't let me add one here. I put botanical sketches in it, and usually sketch once a week. I first heard about this format from Lara Call Gastinger -- January would be a great time to start a journal (but you can start anytime!)
Anita: You can find lots of details about keeping a perpetual botanical journal on Lara Call Gastinger's site at https://www.laracallgastinger.com/perpetual-journal . Also, Lara is offering a New Year's Day class on starting and keeping a perpetual journal. Click on "classes" to learn more.
I've only done week-long backpacking trips off the grid, but we usually enjoyed the solitude, fresh air, wildlife, and non-motorized moments while in the backcountry, but also enjoyed the return to showers and food that wasn't dehydrated when we returned to civilization, LOL! I'm glad that you are enjoying all of the time you are able to spend off the grid. I love seeing your watercolor journal and seeing your amazing pictures! Take care! (I'm a little behind and am getting caught up!)
Hi! I know just what you mean! Towards the end of our 2 weeks off grid we're usually out of fresh produce except for carrots and red cabbage, so when we get groceries I revel in a big salad, banana, apples and fresh berries. Thanks so much for following along, and Happy New Year!
Great looking tree, that is my style! Thanks for sharing your days, evening reading about the errands is wonderful. Also glad you had good neighbors to save the leveling blocks. It is too bad a few out there are not so kind and feel the need to steal from us out in nature. Have a nice holiday!
Hi Lisa, I love hearing about your adventures. I am always especially interested in your Tucson area experiences because I am a local. The desert is a magical place! Those cholla can be sticky. I always carry a comb in my pack in case I pick up a hitchhiker. 🌵 😁 I was happy to see you made it to the Western National Park Store and AZ Art Supply. Have fun on the next part of your journey! 👋
Hi Mary! The desert truly is magical! We love it out here. Great idea to carry a comb -- gonna have to start doing that! The WNPA store and AZ Art Supply rock! Glad we got to go. If you have any recommendations for other places to go I'd love to hear! Thanks for following along!
Patagonia State Park might be a nice stop for you. Busy though this time of year maybe. Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area is where thousands of Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese over winter from November to April.

That's an excellent idea for a future post! We do use a ton of technology in the van! Thanks so much for asking -- and following along!
I would also like to hear about that!

Also Lara has an instagram live each Monday morning I think 11:00 EST. Also fun to listen and watch what she is doing.
Oh yeah! Forgot to mention her IG live -- always so inspiring! Thanks, Joanne!
Thanks so much for sharing your AdVANtures, Lisa!
