I remember feeling a little frustrated at Great Sand Dunes because all the people and their tracks in the sand made it hard to get pictures of the dunes in a natural state. You got a picture of the dunes with dramatic clouds (and inevitably with some climbers).

Hi Steve! I was hoping to get beyond the first dunes to see more natural dunes too. Gotta go back!!

Thanks so much, Ruth!! Right now our Yellowstone reservation is just in one campground -- hoping something opens up so we can swap a few days! But either way just so darn excited to get to go there!

It really is! Sometimes I carry all my supplies on a hike and don’t have time to do a single sketch, darn!

Awesome, awesome pictures! Glad you made it back to this awesome state 🤗 I'm sure you already have so many plans, but I do recommend the "Lakes hike": Bear to Dream to Nymph to Haiyaha. A long day, but so so worth it. Have fun!

Decades ago my family was camping in RMNP. We'd just set up our camp, and chipmunks were everywhere. A ranger appeared and was making all of the campers leave because it had been discovered the chipmunks were carrying the bubonic plague! This was around the time Pope Paul VI died and John Paul I had been elected. We were on our way home when a family member called and said "the pope died." We were confused and said "we know." But then we learned it was Pope John Paul I, only pope 1 or 2 months. (John Paul II was subsequently elected)

Hi Mary! Wow! What a memory! We've seen so many chipmonks and ground squirrels -- hopefully they're all plague free now!

Enjoy your time in RMNP! So many lakes, so little time! It's challenging to get a parking space in the Bear Lake area even with timed entry. Another beautiful hike in that area includes Alberta Falls to the Loch. If you are feeling more adventurous, continue on and climb Timberline Falls to Lake of Glass and Sky Pond! Your photos are gorgeous!
